Julia Child! America's Favorite Chef (2004)

Julia Child! America's Favorite Chef (2004)
Member Rating:
Julia Child may well have introduced more Americans to classic European cuisine than anyone else; as the author of Mastering the Art of French Cooking and host of the long-running public television series The French Chef, Child's playful sense of humor and no-nonsense approach to the nuts and bolts of fine food made her a favorite of food snobs and aspiring cooks alike. Julia Child! America's Favorite Chef is a documentary on Child's remarkable life and times, including her work with the OSS during World War II, her long and happy marriage to Paul Child, her experiences as the only woman in her class at Paris' Cordon Bleu cooking school, and how a guest spot plugging her book on an educational television station in Boston started her on a long and successful career before the camera. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

My husband and I found this to be a completely delightful and enchanting peek into the life and person of Julia Child. It took me back to my youth when I'd watch Julia every week to see what sort of cheerful, immensely entertaining and delicious things she would whip up next. If you like cooking or just eating amazing food, enjoy good biographies, and love to contemplate love, you must make an hour in your life to absorb this charming demi-bio. Bon Apetit!

Julia Child is a cooking institution! She wrote the book and set the bar for all who followed her. This interesting documentary about her life, will no doubt surprise and delight many of her fans. The struggles she went through before she became America's Favorite Chef are eye-opening and only serve to endear her even more. There was never before or after anyone like Julia! Even Sarah Moulton with her original call-in show, couldn't hold a candle (but came close). You go Julia!!! If I was to find a show close, it would be "The Two Fat Ladies." But Julia beat them in the cooking department hands down. She is sadly missed!
