The Future of Food (2004)

The Future of Food (2004)
Member Rating:
Farming was once one of the most common professions in America, but now the growing of food for America's dinner tables is primarily in the hands of a small number of large agricultural corporations. With deregulations placing less federal scrutiny on how crops are grown, and an increasing number of "agri-business" firms introducing genetically modified vegetables and grains, some experts have begun to question just what we are eating, and how it got that way. At a time when some firms have started seeking patents for new strains of modified seeds and plants, will there come a day when the growing of certain essential foodstuffs will be controlled by private corporations who own a "copyright" on, say, wheat or tomatoes? The Future of Food is a documentary which focuses on growing concerns over how our crops are produced, and how science is altering the foods we eat. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This ships as 2 discs...separate discs. So disc #2 takes up the space of what could have been another movie. All that is on the second disc is the special post-movie fillers, and they are not very good. Just clips from other documentaries and web links, recipes, etc. The movie itself (on disc 1), is good, but so much of the info has become dated since the creation of this movie. Rent it if you like documentaries. It's well done.

I gave this documentary four stars because of the importance in seeing this film. I would have given it five stars if the delivery of the technical information would have been better presented. The subject matter is compelling and disheartening but don't give up on this documentary because the ending is promising and gives the viewers a real chance to make a difference in this current situation. This film definitely does not have the humor of a Michael Moore film but it is almost as compelling and the subject matter is crucial to our future.

Shame on Block buster for not having more copies of this film. Your life and your children's very survival, depends on you seeing this film and acting on it.
