Placido gave a stirring performance as usual. Aprile Milo was moving in her arias as Aida. Yes its a BIG production but I felt the story benefited from the staging. If you are looking for something intimate, this ain't it.

Huge production! Cast of hundreds: large chorus and over-the-top group of dancers and soldiers. Worth seeing for the fine performance by Placido Domingo.

This big, lavish production is graced with mostly good or at least adequate performances. There weren't any giraffes or elephants, but the Met did manage to get 5 horses on stage. Forgive my sarcasm, but I've never liked this opera, considering it more grandiose than grand. I rented this DVD in the hopes that I could find at least one production that made this opera palatable. In that regard this production succeeds, but just barely. You could certainly do worse.
