A seemingly idyllic childhood is shattered in a nation torn apart by civil war in this powerful drama from Peru. This movie is, visually speaking, probably one of the best Peruvian movies I've seen. It's artistically well shot; the editing is crisp but the quality of the dialogue keeps the charcters in two-dimensions and fails to arouse as much sympathy as it needs to match the movie's visual effectiveness. Although the movie's scope is not so broad the abundance of silences and the absence of a complementary soundtrack takes away from the crispness of the editing and the quality of the transitions. The best character in the movie is El Viejo, a blacksmith who steals every brief scene he is in (ironically) with barely a line to say. I'm glad to see a visual improvement in Peruvian cinema and the writer/director deserves props. I hope he and other Peruvian directors continue this trend.

One of the worse movies I have ever seen. Poorly done, boring, just horrible. I have seen other Peruvian movies that are 100 times better than this one.
