Omnibus: The Suburban Review (1958)

Omnibus: The Suburban Review (1958)
Having bounced around all three major networks, the prestigious fine-arts anthology Omnibus briefly settled at NBC for this special prime-time telecast. Suburban living in the America of the 1920s is amusingly contrasted with the "suburbia" of the 1950s through song, dance, and comedy skits. Heading the cast is the great Bert Lahr (who despite his low-comedy background was no stranger to highbrow television), supported by musical comedy actress Pat Stanley and the up-and-coming satirical team of Mike Nichols and Elaine May. The music production numbers are staged by John Butler, a prolific TV-special choreographer of the period. Hosted by Alistair Cooke, "The Suburban Review" originally aired live and in color. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
