Allan Mindel's Milwaukee, Minnesota is about con men hoping to take advantage of a fishing champion. Albert (Troy Garity) is the best ice-fisherman in Wisconsin. He is not the sharpest tack in the box, making him susceptible to the less than ethical advances of nefarious Jerry (Randy Quaid), Stan (Hank Harris), and Tuey (Alison Folland), who all want in on his tournament winnings. Albert's life becomes even more difficult after his loving mother (Debra Monk) dies in an unexpected traffic incident. This movie was a pleasant surprise. I rented this based on the title only. But it was entertaining. Not too long, but found one interesting thing. At the end when he's dropped off in the truck, the truck's license plate is actually a Manitoba plate, not a Minnesota plate. Musta been filmed up there is my guess....just something I noticed.

The Forrest Gump of Ice Fishing - - this movie was slow...but it had to be !! Any other way would have destroyed the mood of a cold, clammy, depressive Milwaukee, Wisconsin - - and one retarded boy's attempt to find happiness - when he has lost everything in life important to him - in the ice fishing of Wis-KHAAAAAAAAAN-sin. Very interesting concept-movie, was definitely in the same venue as "Fargo" - - which I loved !! If you're an exciting and dashing person - you will find this movie HORRIBLE. If you like cold weather, are moody and reserved - you will GET this movie ! I got it. I dug it. Ahhh yah....y' betcha !!

Bad, bad and some more bad. We took about 25 minutes before we turned it off. I like small-time flics generally speaking, but this one had bad acting and a horrendous storyline. Quite ridiculous characterizations, really. Anyway, try it out if you want Waterboy meets Ridiculous Con Flic.
