Not a sequel, not really a prequel, sort of a remake, more of a re-imagining, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights follows the blossoming love affair of young couple Katey (Romola Garai) and Javier (Diego Luna) against the backdrop of the Cuban Revolution in 1958. Katey is an American girl living in Cuba with her parents who meets Javier, a local. Javier takes Katey to a nightclub where he teaches her how to dance dirty Cuban-style. The two grow closer and closer, but when Castro takes over, Katey's parents decide to flee for the U.S., leaving Katey to make the ultimate decision.     Great movie. i think that actors were great, I loved them together. It was not just a dance movie and a love story, but at the same time described little bit of Cuba and political and historical situation at that particular time.

    Dirty Dancing (the original) was a film that worked hard to maintain its take me serious approach even though the film was targeted towards one audience and one audience alone. In the end it was a major success (grossing more money then any song and dance film even to this day). What Dirty Dancing Havana Nights was, was a cheap imitation of the first film just set in a different place. The film moves forward so fast while trying to use the exact same story that it feels forced. Like the director thought just because it worked once it'll work again even if its done horribly, as is done in this film. Another sad mark against it is the lead characters. Diego Luna (Open Range) is so femanine looking you can't pick up on that whole loverboy vibe. Sela Ward's character is never given a chance to shine. When the film was over I couldn't help but feel robbed of my time. Avoid this film like the plague.

    The music is amazing. I want to find the soundtrack. The dancing is something to behold, beautiful and sensual and hot. The story is not too bad and there are many good actors/actresses, but I wasn't riveted to the movie for the story. I thought Diego Luna was just fine for his role. He is uniquely handsome and can move his body for the dancing very well. An attractive man does not have to be big in stature, all muscles, and handsome, like Patrick Swayze or these actors in the current dance movies. Romola Garai was excellent in her part, as well. But, it's worth seeing for the dancing and music...just beware of the copy you get in the mail. The one I received was quite scratched and skipped too often. Luckily, I had already seen the movie on cable TV.
