The dialogue was a bit thin, camera work and sound track were very uneven. The story had some action. There was a lot of nudity to show the wicked city life. You might enjoy the really nice African scenery near Capetown, and the delightful warmth of the villagers, in song and dance. But the ending was too open-ended. Christopher Lambert and Dennis Hopper did a fine job as always.

The movie was very inconsistent and rough, CL looked tired, DH had the craziest toupee that I have ever seen but cute DK lit up the screen. The story was weak and hard to follow but the South African village was interesting. Worth a rental for DH fans, but lower your expectations.

For a low budget, Dennis Hopper, production this is a surprisingly good drama. If you are looking for a John Woo style shoot-em-up you will be disappointed. The action sequences are sparse and short but well done. Like many films about redemption, it is easy to miss the plot. The mystical overtones can be a little confusing if you fight them. There are several disturbing scenes of violence that look way too rea! The insider look into the hearts of a remote African village is worth the rent, as are the landscapes and music. If not that, the short but revealing nude scene of Diane Kruger (Helen of Troy, National Treasure) may be worth a couple stars, especially if you know how to use the A-B repeat feature on your DVD player. There is less nudity than many Hopper films. Even in the topless bar scene the focus is on showing the seedy underbelly of the Dennis Hopper characters world, not titillation.
