The X-Files: Season 06 (1998)
Member Rating:
The X-Files: Season Six marked an important moment in the evolution of the series in several ways -- for one, the show's production was moved from Vancouver to Los Angeles, but more importantly, the sixth season followed The X-Files: Fight the Future (i.e. the X-Files feature film). Armed with firsthand experience of the bee-carried alien virus and knowledge of the existence of the most classified government research facility yet, FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are closer to the heart of the conspiracy than they have ever been. After some of the series' signature lighter fare -- in this case, a body-swapping scenario between Mulder and bored Agent Morris Fletcher (Michael McKean) in "Dreamland" and a tale of a baseball player who may have left his home planet due to love of the game ("The Unnatural") -- the season comes to a head when Scully travels to Africa to find the cause and cure for Mulder's neurological deterioration and finds the long-buried remains of an alien spacecraft. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

The X-Files was, perhaps the most iconic TV show of the 1990's. Feeding off of the long time American passion for UFOs and conspiracies, the X-Files delivered audiences what they craved. The often ambiguous relationship between Agents Mulder and Scully kept fan's tuned in, even when the material was flat (or the series' over-arching plot-line grew stale). Season 6 was a mixed bag of good and bad. While production values remained high, the series as a whole seemed to have lost some of its direction and dynamic. Whatever the cause, viewers were forced to sift the grain from the chaff during season 6. Some truly delightful episodes are "The Ghosts That Stole Xmas" (with Ed Asner & Lily Tomlin), Dreamland 1 & 2 (with Michael "Lenny" McKeon) & Triangle. Overall, the chemistry, acting, scripting and production values make Season 6 an easy recommendation for fans of the show. For others, selective disc rentals may be the better option. Enjoy!

Guess the producers wanted the audience to be as bored with Fox and Dana's reassignment off the X-Files as they were. Gives everyone a glimpse of what trash real FBI agents must have to deal with. Most redeeming part of these episodes is Scully asking (often), "what are we doing here?"
