Member Rating:
Four college students are forced to pay for their actions after a startling act of violence in this urban drama. Katrina (MC Lyte) is a college freshman who, after attending a big party on campus, is invited to a smaller private get-together being thrown by Will (Wood Harris), a charismatic senior. After plenty of drinking, Will and his buddies slip a dose of a "date rape" drug into Katrina's wine, and four men violate her after she's passed out. Will and his cohorts think the whole sordid matter is over the next morning, but it quickly becomes evident that Katrina is not about to forgive or forget the incident. Train Ride also features appearances by Russell Hornsby, Joe Clair, rapper Guru, and Esther Rolle in her final screen appearance (the film was released well over a year after her death in November 1998). ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This movie was not at all what I thought I was ordering based on the "description" - this happens! So, be ready. However, as poorly as I felt it started out, it was something I watched to the end without shutting off. So it couldn't have been too bad. Again, it may not be what you're hoping for - it's more about a dirty trick played on someone and the consequences thereof. FOR ALL.

The film takes a very hard look at ADULTolesence... that period of time when people are legally adult but not quite mature. It is a time when many can make some big mistakes in judgment because they can indulge their lust and be legally intoxicated. Train Ride also explores the differences in male/female perspective on date rape. For far too many men in the early stages of adulthood, satisfying their sex drive is all-important. That impulsive drive combined with intoxicants can lead an otherwise decent young man to violate a woman he doesn't know well (I would not call the main male characters in this movie decent menÂ…but they could be). The movie lacks sophistication and intriguing plot twists...but it shares a tale of arrogance and brutality with the direct impact of a heavyweight puncher.

A good movie to rent by every father with a nearly grown daughter who is going off to college for the first time, away from home & security; A good movie to rent by every parent with a nearly grown son who is going off to college for the first time who may be required to make his own decision and stand by it; this movie addresses the seedier side of college life that you don't see unless it happens to you or someone close to you; Would probably be a good idea to show it to high school kids except parents would object to the sexual content under the guise of protecting their children from the seemier aspects of reality while clipping their wings & making them vulnerable to the very demons they are trying to protect them from...
