Member Rating:
Gaspar Noé's Irreversible utilizes the same storytelling technique used by Christopher Nolan in Memento and Harold Pinter in Betrayal. Consisting of about a dozen scenes, all shot in single takes, Irreversible charts a disturbing night in the life of Marcus (Vincent Cassel), but presents the events in reverse chronological order. The audience eventually learns how the beautiful Alex (Cassel's real-life partner Monica Bellucci) is involved. The film opens with a violent altercation at a gay sex club and works backward to explain how and why the violence occurred. The actors improvised the vast majority of the dialogue starting from a four-page story outline. Irreversible was screened in competition at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

The murder and rape scene were tough to watch but it was a well done movie. Original and with many ironic scenes. I think its worth watching but its not for the weak at heart. If all you ever watch is the typical Hollywood stuff you will not be able to stomach this. Also its in reverse order so that helps figure out the movie.

Irreversible is the most unique film I have seen in very long time. It is the kind of film that I did not expect could be produced in this post feminst, politically correct era, The viewer is taken on a journey and is made to feel what the actors are feeling You feel the terror, pain and humilation of Alex's rape for the entire ten minutes. You also feel the pain of her being brutally beaten afterwards. You feel the frustration of Marcus as he hunts for the rapist. You wince in horror as Marcus's friend hits another would be rapist until his face completely caves in. The acting in this film is first rate and given the topic had to have been quite a challenge. Irreversible is a film not to be missed, but be warned any film that you may have seen depicting rape and murder could not begin to prepare you for this,

Intense 42 minutes to start. Not sure if this is a good movie or a bad one but it is absolutely unavoidable.
