This fun, silly thriller written and directed by Michael Crichton manages to combine the dramatic murders of beautiful models, a secret conspiracy to use TV commercials for mind-control, and an unusual seeing-eye device which makes the wearer invisible. Plastic surgeon Larry Roberts (Albert Finney) becomes the prime suspect after two models on whom he operated are killed. Larry becomes suspicious because both of the women came into his office asking for very precise and seemingly unnecessary physical alterations. Agreeing to operate, because the women's jobs depended on the surgery, Larry must now clear his own name and save his life and career. With the aid of a friend and model Cindy (Susan Dey), Larry discovers and foils the plot led by corporation-head John Reston (James Coburn). Larry must then fight for his life against Reston's thugs who are equipped with the devices, called "Lookers." This is good, if silly fun and Albert Finney does his best with a somewhat implausible script. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

For some reason, I have been entranced by this movie since I first saw it in the theatres in the early 1980s. This movie is very much '80s in look and feel. Some of the lines are corny, and some situations the characters find themselves in are far fetched. If you are looking for the latest techno-thriller, this movie may not be for you. On the other hand, the message is still as believable, and some of the movies main points just as true as they were 25 years ago, when the movie was released. It's a good flick. If you are a fan of Crichton, any of the actors, or movies about how people might want to use tv to control the population, you should find this movie entertaining. I'm glad they chose to _finally_ put it out on DVD, and you can be sure it's one that I will keep in my collection.

A good sci-fi movie by 80s standards. The plot is loosely woven and triumps to make a fair sci-fi movie by standards of 1981 when it was produced. Slow and predictable, the film is very reminscent of the Star Trek genre without the space travel. Various sci-fi apparatus and out-of-this-world gizmos are used to build subtle moments of suspense and mystery. The actors are B rate actors and actresses that fade from memory once the movie is over. Over all, the movie is entertaining but not an unforgettable movie.

Boring, tedious; couldn't wait for it to end. It was corny and cheesy, even by 80's standards.
