Here is a classic opera sung by an all-star cast, backed by one of the world's greatest opera companies (San Francisco). Every aspect of this production is top-notch: musical performance, acting, costumes and sets. A must-view. Why is it, though, that we rarely see an opera video with consistently accurate English subtitles? The captions in this video, and in most opera videos I've seen, look like they were put together by third-graders - constant problems with spelling, grammar, sense, etc. And why did they think it necessary to translate the syllable "Ah..."? Three times in a row, in fact...

This is an excellent production of this rarely performed opera. I rented it out of curiosity, as I was unfamiliar with it. Regrettably, I've concluded that this opera deserves its relative obscurity.
