The Reduced Shakespeare Company: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged (2000)
Member Rating:
The familiar stories of William Shakespeare take on new twists and turns in the hands of the Reduced Shakespeare Company. The three-person troupe not only reduces the stories from hours to minutes, it takes a bit of literary license in the telling of the Bard's tales. Othello wins Desdemona's heart, regaling her with his adventures in a rap song. Titus Andronicus is re-invented as a culinary arts show. It is all in good fun in this PBS production. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi

I was introduced to this Shakespearean Play by my own Professor of English Lit. I really enjoyed watching this DVD from Blockbusters and can not wait for this three-person troupe to come to Pittsburgh PA! HIGHLY RECOMMEND, even if you are not a Shakespeare fan, YOU WILL BE once you see this troupe! Even children laughed when watching this group! A perfect way of introducing Shakespeare to the younger ones!

The three guys who run this show of farcical Shakespeare have a lot of fun putting on the show and you can that in their performances. It looses steam a bit towards the middle, some of the jokes getting old, but it is still a refreshing, unpretentious look at the Bard's plays (complete with puking, large fake breasts, and bad wigs.) It is similar to a lot of improv troupes I have seen but better.
