Member Rating:
Vanessa L. Williams stars in this made-for-TV drama as Henriette Delille, a woman born in New Orleans before the abolition of slavery. Delille refused to accept the narrow boundaries society attempted to impose upon her as a mixed-race woman (who are routinely married off to wealthy European visitors). While Gerard Gaultier (Gil Bellows), a successful French doctor, attempts to win her hand, Henriette instead pledges herself to serve the community, opening a combination school and medical clinic to look to the needs of the city's black community. While set in Louisiana, The Courage to Love (also shown as The Quadroon Ball) was shot in another place with a rich French heritage, the Canadian city of Quebec. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I enjoyed the movie. It shed light on a part of history I was unaware of. i will check out Feast of All Saints to see if it compares.......updating my review... I watched Feast of All Saints....courage of love is better...Feast of All Saints took forever to start, they could have eliminated the first 30mins

Feast of All Saints is a better movie and it covers the same topic as this one. An elite 18th century society of Quadroons trying to maintain their status by "courting" southern white men--or more specifically New Orleans plantation owners. The script was dry and the acting a bore. Again, rent Feast of All Saints instead. I expected more of Diahann Caroll and Vanessa Williams (but not Cynda Williams).
