Britannic (2000)

Britannic (2000)
Member Rating:
H.M.S. Britannic was the sister ship of the Titanic, and like its more famous sibling, the ship was fated to be lost while at sea. This drama imagines what might have led up to the ship's sinking on its final voyage. Vera Campbell (Amanda Ryan) is an attractive young woman who is an undercover agent for the British government. She is ordered to cross the sea aboard the Britannic in hopes of learning more about German spies who may attempt to sabotage the great ship. During the course of the voyage, Vera becomes infatuated with Reynolds (Edward Atterton), the Britannic's chaplain; he also finds himself attracted to her, but while his status as a man of the cloth presents an obstacle in their romance, it's nothing compared to Vera's discovery that Reynolds is one of the German agents she's been assigned to ferret out. Britannic also stars Jacqueline Bisset, Bruce Payne, and John Rhys-Davies. Incidentally, while in real life the Britannic did indeed sink off the Greek coast, it's conceded to have fallen prey to a torpedo -- rather than any sabotage on board. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The Britannic was the third of a trio of ships built by the white star line ,but just as she was getting adorned with furniture and decorations to make her even more grand than the Titanic, WW1 broke out she was immediateley transformed into a hospital ship for the british navy. On the 21st of November 1916 she was sailing in the Kea channel off of Athens,Greece when a large explosion rocked the ship, less than 2 hours later the Britannic was on the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. Britanic (before the Titanic sank) was originally supposed to be named Gigantic. Improvements to the ship included higher watertight compartments, a pipe organ at the bottom of the grand staircase and a double bottomed hull. To this day no one knows if she was sunk by a mine or a torpedo. Some people believe the olympic class liners were cursed because 2 out of the 3 sank.Several speculate that if it was a torpedo that sank her it was only because they couldnt see the running lights.

Movie was okay. Acting was 2nd class, scenes left a little to be desired, plot was totally superficial. Didn't know any of the actors so I can't say much about their ability. aside note: I wonder if the ship was as nice as the Titanic..

Pretty good, but not great. Special effects are comically bad ..... forgivable for a 50's film but this was made in 2000.
