In this comedy-drama, a teenage boy gets a crash course in the mysteries of love and sex. Lydia Callahan (Jennifer Jason Leigh) had her son Sam when she was only 14 years old. Now 14 himself, Sam (Bug Hall) finds himself in the small community of GroVont, WY, after his mother is run out of town by her own father (R. Lee Ermey). While Lydia is helped through her transition by Hank Elkrunner (Michael Greyeyes), Sam doesn't fit in at school and runs afoul of bully Dothan Talbot (Brad Renfro). But he soon makes friends with classmate Maurey Pierce (Mischa Barton), who makes an unusual proposal: since she doesn't want to seem inexperienced when she loses her virginity, perhaps Sam could help her practice the finer points of sex. While Sam is more than willing to help, this arrangement creates complications that his fantasies about his Dream Girl (Drew Barrymore) have not prepared him for. Skipped Parts is based on the novel of the same name by Tim Sandlin. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

It's a nice story about family dysfunction and dealing with life as a young teenager. Sam and Maurey decide to experiment sexually at 14 so that in the future they'll know what they're doing, at first they have a little difficulty figuring how everything works until Sam's mom Lydia explains things to them, saying "this game stops as soon as Maurey gets her period." After that they experiment freely and without perversion until Maurey gets pregnant, and the 2 kids have to figure out what to do about it. Filled with conflict and heartbreak this story in sweet and funny. Based on a book by Tim Sadlin.

Not a bad movie. From the preview I was expecting it to go a different direction, but worth watching. Movie could have probably went deeper into all of the characters emotions. I felt like there was still things to tell and that the movie could have been longer.

Overall, I wasn't very impressed with this movie. It was a little slow going, Mischa Barton has terrible acting in this she sounded like she was just reading the script instead of acting. Brad Renfro was supposed to be a Wyoming native, but couldn't get the southern accent out of his voice. It was not a waist of time watching, but was a little disappointed. IT did have it's good parts and I like how they all become a famly at the end and Lydia decides to grow up and finally act like a mom.
