I read the book, Heartbreak Hotel, by Anne Rivers Siddons, upon which this movie was based. I was so glad I read the book first because the similarities between the two were few. The movie's story line was thin, at best; without first reading the book, I'm sure I would have been confused about the plot. The screenplay writers basically wrote their own story very loosely based on the book. It wasn't the greatest book I have every read, but it was a lot better than the movie, which I watched out of curiosity. Next time I will just stick with the book!
