Hawk the Slayer (1981)

Hawk the Slayer (1981)
Member Rating:
Hawk the Slayer will appeal most to undiscriminating fans of the sword-and-sorcery genre. The title character, played by John Terry, is on a lifelong quest for "The Power", an enchanted flying sword. Alas, Hawk's evil brother Voltan (Jack Palance) likewise covets The Power. A plethora of violence ensues, culminating in a slow-motion duel to the death between hero and villain. Among Hawk's comrades are a dwarf and an elf, who are "R2D2 and C3PO" in everything except name and appearance. Hardly the best of its kind, Hawk the Slayer is redeemed by the unbridled hamminess of Jack Palance, who seems to be the only one who realizes that the whole affair is to silly to be taken seriously. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Oh Wow. I have been actively seeking this movie for years. I finally found the correct way to google it, the magic words were "machine gun crossbow fantasy". I know this movie will be awesome, just like processed cheese in a can. Just like I remembered it, I can't wait! Ahh, the Olden Days of Yore, when we were young and played D&D. That being said, if you neither were a teenager in the 80's or can admit to playing D&D then, you will not get - or like this wonderous gem. Get ur LULZ here.

This is the classic D&D storyline. It was a magic sword, mythic creatures and heroes willing to die for a righteous cause. The special effects are lame, but a 'lucasfilm' it is not.

As some others have said, you had to be a die hard D&D gamer to appreciate this film. As low budget as it was, it still held all that was fantasy. A decent storyline that carried the familiar tone - brother vs brother, good vs evil......and etc etc.... If you remember this you should consider another of the time....Mazes and Monsters - starring a young Tom Hanks....
