Mike Portnoy: Liquid Drum Theater is a two-part program featuring footage of Portnoy in the recording studio, performing portions of songs and breaking down the elements of each one for the viewers at home. The first part finds Portnoy in Millbrook, NY, working on songs for Liquid Tension Experiment. The songs heard are "Biaxident," "Another Dimension," "When the Water Breaks," "Acid Rain," "Paradigm Shift," and "Universal Mind." The second part, shot at Beartracks Studio, features Portnoy laying down tracks for Dream Theater. The songs included here are "The Dance of Eternity," "Home," "Beyond This Life," "The Spirit Carries On," and "Hell's Kitchen."
