...the Ocean Shores DVD is full frame with original theatrical subs that are frequently clipped at the sides. The subtitles themselves are poor translations, so it is often difficult to tell what is going on. This is especially problematic because much of the comedy (which comprises a good 70% of the movie) would make little sense to non-Chinese speakers. For example, I caught a reference to a Thai splashing holiday, which really does exist. During the hottest part of the year in Thailand, there is a week where it is socially acceptable to splash strangers with cold water. There is also a long Mahjong sequence which won't make any sense if you don't know the rules to Mahjong. Even the humor that IS accessible is quite broad. What does communicate clearly is the ridiculously acrobatic gunplay, especially the 10-minute grand finale. Rent it if you have a tolerance for HK comedy, enjoy HK gunplay, and have seen most of the classics of the genre.
