Synopsis of Exiled
Political tensions in Northern Ireland are at their peak in 1991 when Brendan (Paul Ronan) decides he's had enough. He leaves the land of his birth to move to the United States, planning to stay with his cousin Sean (Ronan Carr), who lives in New York City. Brendan discovers a bit too late that the troubles he was hoping to leave behind have followed him across the water: Sean works with the Irish Republican Army in the United States, and Brendan is forced to help him with a gun-running scheme, alongside Sean's comrades Paul (Paul Clarke) and Mickey (Mickey McGloine), two men known more for their muscle than their stability. A dangerous situation becomes almost suicidal for Brendan when he falls in love with Paul's wife (Jennry Conroy). Exiled was given an enthusiastic reception in its screenings at the 1999 Galway Film Festival in Ireland. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
