Australian director Jamie Blanks helmed this teen horror film set at Pendleton University. Campus legend has it that 25 years earlier Pendleton was the site of a mass murder by a demented abnormal psych instructor who killed six students and then himself. However, no proof of the prof's deed remains. Urban legends are the subject of a course in American folklore taught by Professor Wexler (Robert Englund). When a series of bizarre deaths occur on the campus, assertive student Natalie thinks they are murders based on urban legends, but classmates Brenda (Rebecca Gayheart), ambitious journalism major Paul (Jared Leto), and practical joker Damon (Joshua Jackson) claim it's just a coincidence. Then Natalie begins to realize that she's the next victim. Since Joshua Jackson is a co-lead on TV's Dawson's Creek, an inside joke surfaces when a radio plays a bit of the Dawson's Creek theme (Paula Cole's I Don't Want to Wait). ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

Urban Legends is one of the multiple horror movies that appeared in the late 90's after the success of Scream. It is your typical slasher, teenage murder movie that was cast with an ensemble of up and coming actors. Urban Legends plays off the variety of stories that you have heard since your were a kid and makes for some pretty inventive death scenes, unfortunately the movie loses alot of it's muster once the killer is unmasked. If you enjoyed Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer than you will also enjoy Urban Legend.

A unique 90's slasher movie that has a feel like the Scream movies. The movie is fun to watch and it never caught me off interest since the opening scene. Some of the actors though were horrible and the dialog was bad. Good twist ending to a decent movie. Worth a look for a slasher fan.

the movie try's to fit in with the cool and popular 90's teen slasher flicks like scream and i know what you did last summer but try's a little too hard, it lacks the sharpness, the humor, and the suspense and feels more like a rip off, i do give it credit for trying though and it does use some good ideas but feels much campier than its trying to be, as well the charactors are not as hip as they are in some of the other horror films of the time, the acting isn't that good either, not awful but fairly corny, the film feels much more outdated than many of the other horror films of that time but is still fairly enjoyable in some areas and worth a look at just dont expect it to be scream.
