Synopsis of Liberte 1

In no more than an average endeavor to show the clashes between an old society and its beliefs and the modern world, this cooperative French-Senegalese drama by director Yves Ciampi focuses on the construction of a modern highway. Everything is going well until the chief engineer runs into an unexpected problem -- the new road is heading straight through the spot in a village where a sacred tree is venerated. All work comes to a halt as the government is consulted and the engineer is also faced with some personal problems.
